Или вот еще ужасающе выглядит. Бухарест... Не только в России жадные и тупые архитекторы pic.twitter.com/IkhCvxyzeQ— Антон Чаблин (@achablin) 26 апреля 2018 г.
[UPDATE: #EdithMacefieldHouse in #Ballard may NOT be demo’d on 4/20 after all! (see FB page “Edith Macefield House”)]. Edith is a folk shero, a little old lady that said NOPE to corporate developers, big $$ & #displacement. Got worldwide attention in 2006 when she refused to move even after shopping complex #BallardBlocks dangled $1M for her tiny 1900 home at 1438 NW 46th St, which she bought for her mother in the ‘50s ("I don't want to move. Money doesn't mean anything.") They even tried to pay Mike’s Chili Parlor owner/Edith’s friend Mike Semandaris to convince her (he declined). This forced them to build around her, w/5-story cement walls on 3 sides & w/in feet of her windows. Ppl called it “The Up House” after the Pixar film & visitors worldwide came to tie balloons to the fence. Barry Martin, superintendent of #development, became her friend/caretaker & wrote a book about her, Under One Roof (Fox Searchlight picked up film rights). Edith wanted to die in the same house as her mother, & on Father’s Day 2008 at age of 86, she died on the same orange couch her mother did. She willed her house to Martin & in ‘09 he sold it to Greg Pinneo who wanted to use it for his real estate coaching firm Reach Returns, but Pinneo failed to pay back taxes & in 2015 it went thru foreclosure auction. The bank owned it & put in hands of “The No BS Broker” Paul Thomas, who tried to find a buyer who wouldn’t demo. The bank agreed to donate the house when OPAL Community Land Trust proposed to barge it to Orcas Island & restore it for permanently affordable housing, but OPAL couldn’t raise the $205K needed. Thomas then rejected 38 proposals to preserve it & int’l investment group tied to Ballard Blocks bought it for $450K & left it to rot. Edith’s legacy will live on: she inspired annual Macefield Music fest. 30+ ppl got house tattoo designed by Curtis James (Anchor Tattoo) & call themselves “#EdithMacefield’s Army.” Umpqua Bank on Market has memorial wall in their lobby. “I liked the #oldBallard. The new one-you can have it.”-Edith. If demo happens & you get footage, pls send my way. #stopvisualizingballard #freeballard #oldseattle #UpHouse #seattle #vanishingseattle
